Basketball

Basketball is a high intensity sport and provides a whole-body workout involving running, jumping, hand-eye coordination skills with dribbling, passing the ball, and shooting.

The school runs an after schools league each year in which the girls from 2nd to 6th class can partake in.

Local schools are also invited to our annual basketball tournament each summer.

We believe here at Doon Convent NS that this kind of exercise also helps boost aerobic capacity, energy levels and metabolism which all translates into increased concentration levels in the classroom.

Swimming

Doon Convent N.S recognises the importance of education in water safety. The children from 2nd to 6th Class attend swimming lessons for 8 weeks in The University of Limerick’s Sport Arena. Our children participate in the PAWS programme (Primary Aquatics Water Safety) and are awarded certificates as they move through the levels to become competent swimmers.

Soccer

Soccer is an important aspect of school life in Doon Convent NS. The emphasis is firmly placed on fun, inclusivity and fostering a passion for physical activity.

The Senior girls partake in the SPAR FAI Primary School 5 aside tournament each year. This is a fun five-a-side football programme which encourages children to get involved in sport and develop a love for football and physical activity.
