December 2025 - Newsletter
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we face the Christmas season, Doon Convent N.S. looks forward to many activities over the December period. We had the Scholastic Book Fair the last two weeks of November. 60% of the money earned is renumerated to the school in the form of books/novels. This year we are focusing on comprehension strategies.
Parent-Teacher meetings were also taking place.
The pupils are enjoying ‘Jiving’ every Tuesday. There are a number of events taking place:
- Joint workshops for confirmation classes getting both schools working together with Fr. Jim Donnelly & Deacon Tom Anderson.
- December 17th: Christmas Play at 11:00am
- December 18th: Panto in UL.
- December 19th: School closes at 12 noon with infants and siblings 10 minutes before hand to alleviate traffic.
- January 5th: School reopens.
- Swimming 3rd – 6th Classes with Aoibhneas for 6 weeks from January 7th onwards. The price of swimming is subsidised at €75 with the Parents’ Council subsidising swimming and BOM paying the balance. This can now be done on Aladdin.
- January 17th: Confirmation Enrolment Mass at 6.30pm Saturday evening.
- January 19th: School closed – Primary Language Curriculum for Staff in Limerick Education Office.
- January 27th:Grandparents’ Day Mass at 12:00am followed by refreshments in Doon Convent N.S.
Parents’ Council have been very busy & working very hard. The Halloween Disco & ’45 Card Drive’ saw great success. Money will be used very transparently for school and may buy the following for 2025/2026:
- 1.Subsidising swimming.
- 2.Indoor games for rainy days.
- 3.Cage to store outside games and equipment.
- 4.Submerged trampoline.
- 5.Maths equipment for new curriculum.
- 6.Orienteering maps for new boundary lines of school in front of school and the back of the school to STN. It is my vision to transform these newly acquired grounds to the back of the school into Astro-Turf possibly sometime in the future to promote all sports and athletics.
- 7.STEAM robotics & Science equipment.
It must be noted and recognised that without all of you as parents helping our school, we would never have the amenities, teaching aids and school set up to push the boundaries of learning. The Board of Management and staff want to thank you all as parents for such help. It is great to work together and every decision is made to promote the learning experience of the pupils attending and the interaction with you as parents. Thank you all.
Kindest Regards,
Derek Walsh
Principal
